Frequently asked questions

1. What precautions should be taken when using an S.T. Dupont lighter?

The lighter should only be refilled with S.T. Dupont brand gas.

Keep it in a place inaccessible to children.

Use with extreme caution if the lighter contains flammable liquid under pressure.

Avoid exposing the lighter to direct sunlight and heating it above 50 °C.

Do not refill the lighter near an open flame.

To avoid accidents when using, refilling, or adjusting the flame, keep the lighter away from the face and clothing.

Do not deform or ignite the lighter or refill cartridges.

Use special equipment for refilling and adjusting the flame.

2. How to refill the S.T. Dupont lighter?

ATTENTION: Do not refill the lighter near an open flame.

Models of series 1, 2, and Gatsby

— Clean the reservoir by pressing the valve head (for example, with a pencil).
— Warm the gas canister with your hands, while keeping the lighter away from any heat source (the temperature difference will help control the refilling process).
— Screw the canister all the way in without applying excessive force. The transparent wall of the canister will allow you to monitor the refilling process.

MiniJet/MaxiJet series models

— Hold the lighter vertically upside down.
— Insert the tip of the S.T. Dupont gas canister into the valve and press it all the way, without applying excessive force. Keep the canister in this position for a few seconds.

D series models

— Insert the cartridge.
— Press it all the way, without applying excessive force, and hold it in this position for 5 seconds. Repeat the procedure.

Note: This type of cartridge allows the lighter to be refilled twice.

D-light series models

— Lift the bottom plate with a fingernail to access the refill valve, turn it, and lock it in place.
— For optimal refilling, clean the reservoir by pressing the valve head with a pencil.
— Insert the cartridge into the refill valve and press it all the way without applying excessive force. Hold the cartridge in this position for 5 seconds. Repeat the action until gas begins to escape.

Note: This type of cartridge allows the lighter to be refilled 5 times.

After refilling the lighter, it is recommended to wait five minutes before further use. This allows the lighter to return to room temperature.

ATTENTION: The use of third-party gas canisters or refilling systems may damage the product. It is highly recommended to use S.T. Dupont gas to ensure flawless lighter performance.

3. How to replace the ink refill or refill an S.T. Dupont pen?

All S.T. Dupont ballpoint pens, except the Mini Olympio model, are equipped with a "pen/pencil" system.

S.T. Dupont's main innovation lies in the possibility of fitting either a ballpoint refill or a lead with eraser into the writing instrument. Turning the cap half a turn to the end activates the refill.

Replacing a ballpoint refill with a lead

— Remove the cap.
— Unscrew the replacement block or mechanism (in Mini Olympio models) counterclockwise.
— Install and screw the replacement block back.

Replacing the ballpoint refill in Classique, Olympio Large/Medium, and Caprice models

— Follow all the steps as when replacing the ballpoint refill with a lead.
— Replace the used refill or lead with a new one.

Refilling fountain pens

Refilling can be done either with a cartridge or with a piston converter.

Replacing the ring in Caprice models

— Open the pen as you would to replace the refill or cartridge.
— Remove the ring.
— Install the new ring: two small protrusions will help you determine the correct position.

4. How should S.T. Dupont products be maintained?

All maintenance recommendations for each product are provided in the user instructions.

— Lighter maintenance

The S.T. Dupont lighter does not require special care. To restore its original shine, simply wipe the surfaces with a soft cloth. Silver parts should be treated with special wipes, while natural lacquer elements should be cared for like jewelry or glasses. Lacquer is virtually immune to aggressive acids and highly resistant to impacts, scratches, wear, and water.

— Pen maintenance

To restore the original shine, wipe the writing instrument with a soft cloth. Use special wipes for silver surfaces, as this precious metal is prone to oxidation (this negative effect on silver can be intensified by prolonged contact with leather or rubber surfaces).

For fountain pens, use only S.T. Dupont cartridges and remember to regularly clean the ink delivery system. Use a piston converter to rinse the capillary with cold water until the water runs clear. To avoid ink leaks during flight, replace the old cartridge with a new one or fill the converter, holding the pen upright with the nib up.

— Leather maintenance

Leather, being a natural material, requires gentle care. It is very sensitive to water, so if liquid gets on the leather surface, blot it with a soft, light-colored cotton cloth. Additionally, leather is highly sensitive to high temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight, so it is best to store it away from any heat sources. Do not use waterproofing or wax-containing products to clean the leather. It is sufficient to use a soft cotton cloth of a neutral color, slightly moistened with water.
